Ultrafast solitary waves sustained through induced phase modulation by a copropagating pump

Abstract

Ultrafast pulses, with an energy lower than that required to self-sustain a soliton shape in the anomalous dispersion regime, may preserve their shape if an intense copropagating pump of a different color (i.e., in the normal dispersion regime) and a longer duration is present.
