Abstract

The fraction of incident laser energy coupled into laser-produced ions has been measured for CO2-TEA laser pulses incident on aluminum surfaces in vacuum. The fraction increases with increasing laser power density, reaching a value of 0.06 at 1.85 × 108 W/cm2.
