Effect of an irregular pattern on wavelength selectivity in a volume hologram

Abstract

A volume hologram recorded with a random phased reference wave is described. A random phase front of a light wave is generated by illuminating laser light onto an irregular pattern. It is shown that an irregular pattern can improve the wavelength selectivity of a volume hologram. An irregular pattern with a finer surface structure has a better performance. When laser light is focused onto the irregular pattern, the larger focused spot size leads to better wavelength selectivity.
