Abstract

Broadband, compact in-fiber polarizers were fabricated using a pulsed CO2 laser to modify the air holes along one side of the hollow-core photonic bandgap fibers. The polarizers have lengths from 3 to 6mm and exhibit a polarization extinction ratio of better than 20dB over a wavelength range larger than 100nm at approximately 1550nm.
